Mickey Mouse was created by Walt Disney in 1928 and has become an icon for the Walt Disney Company. His birthday is celebrated as being November 18, 1928 with the release of Steamboat Willie, even though Mickey appeared six months prior in another animated cartoon. Mickey has become one of the most recognizable symbols in the world.
Mickey is not the only celebrated mouse however. Let's not forget Minnie who appeared on the scene in May of 1928. With their oversized ears and white gloves (which did not appear until March of 1929!), Minnie with her heels and big bow, who could resist these adorable mice! Although originally in black and white, the mice came to life in full color in 1935. Later, the original black and white animations were replaced with colorized versions. Mickey's voice was originally done by Walt Disney himself, but in 1946 because he was too busy with other things and because his voice had changed over the years, Mickey's voice was handed over to Disney musician and actor Jimmy MacDonald.
