New Round Kids Birthday Invitations

I just noticed this past week that Zazzle now has round shaped invitations! Of course, I wanted to get started right away making some round kids birthday invitations because the kids birthday invitations are one of my very favorite products to design for, perhaps my most favorite of all. The new round shape invitations are a great alternative to the 5.25 x 5.25" square invites, printed on both sides, and come with a standard white envelope. You can easily add your child's birthday party information on these cute, colorful, fun birthday invitations before ordering.
Check out some of the new round birthday invites for kids that you can find in my Kids Birthday Store!

Monkey Gifts

Do you love monkeys? Do you know very much about monkeys, other than that they are really cute? Here's some fun facts about monkeys from Science Kids:

"
  • There are currently 264 known monkey species.
  • Monkeys can be divided into two groups, Old World monkeys that live in Africa and Asia, and New World monkeys that live in South America.
  • A baboon is an example of an Old World monkey, while a marmoset is an example of a New World monkey.
  • Apes are not monkeys.
  • Some monkeys live on the ground, while others live in trees.
  • Different monkey species eat a variety of foods, such as fruit, insects, flowers, leaves and reptiles.
  • Most monkeys have tails.
  • Groups of monkeys are known as a ‘tribe’, ‘troop’ or ‘mission’.
  • The Pygmy Marmoset is the smallest type of monkey, with adults weighing between 120 and 140 grams.
  • The Mandrill is the largest type of monkey, with adult males weighing up to 35 kg.
  • Capuchin monkeys are believed to be one of the smartest New World monkey species. They have the ability to use tools, learn new skills and show various signs of self-awareness.
  • Spider monkeys get their name because of their long arms, legs and tail.
  • The monkey is the 9th animal that appears on the Chinese zodiac, appearing as the zodiac sign in 2016."

The first fact surprises me as I had absolutely no idea there were so many species of monkeys.  I was also surprised that some monkeys eat reptiles!

Hippos

I have no idea why I chose hippos as my blog post topic today. I was thinking about all the various animal designs I have in my Toddler's Place Store, everything from cats and dogs to zoo and safari animals like monkeys and elephants and tigers, to the tiniest little critters, the caterpillars, bumblebees, and ladybugs! But in thinking about these designs I realized that I have so many different animal designs I should focus on one at a time, and so, today I chose hippos.
In thinking about hippos, or the hippopotamus, I wondered if I could find any fun facts about hippos, so I googled it and sure enough, this great list of hippopotamus fun facts came up. This list is from Science Kids.

"Check out our range of fun hippopotamus facts for kids. Learn what they look like, where they live, what they eat and much more.
Read on and enjoy a variety of interesting information about hippopotamuses.

  • Hippopotamuses are found in Africa.
  • The name hippopotamus means ‘river horse’ and is often shortened to hippo.
  • The hippopotamus is generally considered the third largest land mammal (after the White rhinoceros and elephant).
  • Hippopotamuses spend a large amount of time in water such as rivers, lakes and swamps.
  • Resting in water helps keep hippopotamuses temperature down.
  • Hippopotamuses give birth in water.
  • Hippopotamuses have short legs, a huge mouth and a body shaped like a barrel.
  • The closest relations of the hippopotamus are surprisingly cetaceans such as whales and dolphins.
  • Scientists believe this family of animals diverged in evolution around 55 million years ago.
  • Although hippos might look a little chubby, they can easily outrun a human.
  • Hippos can be extremely aggressive, especially if they feel threatened.
  • They are regarded as one of the most dangerous animals in Africa.
  • Hippos are threatened by habitat loss and poachers who hunt them for their meat and teeth.
  • A male hippopotamus is called a ‘bull’.
  • A female hippopotamus is called a ‘cow’.
  • A baby hippo is called a ‘calf’.
  • A group of hippos in known as a ‘herd’, ‘pod’, ‘dale’ or ‘bloat’.
  • Hippos typically live for around 45 years.
  • Hippos eat mostly grass."

So there you have it, some fun facts about hippos. Which is your most interesting fact? For me it was the fact that they live for about 45 years. I didn't realize hippos lived that long!
Now for the hippo T-shirts, mugs, bags, cards, stickers, birthday bibs, invitations, and other hippopotamus design items that can be found in our stores! If you love hippos you are sure to find something you want.
